New Mesquite community will bring more than 2,500 homes

Mesquite is growing with a new Kaufman County development that could add thousands of homes.

The city has reached a development agreement with the owners of the 652-acre Spradley Farms property on Interstate 20 near FM740.

The planned community is within the corporate city limits in an area that’s seeing significant residential growth.

The Spradley family has owned the rural property for almost 50 years.

“We’ve had it in the family since 1970 or thereabouts,” said Charles Spradley. “My father always envisioned a value to the property.

“There were points along the way we considered selling, and I’m glad we hung on.”

Spradley said the family is working with developer Nehemiah Co. on the project. Nehemiah has major residential projects in Arlington and Denton County.

“They have good relationships with builders,” Spradley said. “It’s been fun to see this come about and work with Mesquite.”
