Mesquite’s 2024 Economic Development Annual Report showcases record-breaking deals, jobs created

Mesquite, TX – Dec. 20, 2024 – The City of Mesquite has released its 2024 Economic Development Annual Report, which highlights $1.1 billion in deals and some 3,500 new jobs created and announced.

The yearly overview outlines eight new agreements in 2024 which includes international clean energy companies Hexagon Purus and Hithium Tech USA. Also included in 2024 highlights is the accomplishments at two neighborhood retail areas – the 100% occupancy of Northridge Shopping Center and façade work and pad site leasing for Town East Shopping Center.

“Economic development in Mesquite is a team effort,” said Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. “Many hours and conversations go into these achievements. We are successful because we have a wonderful team. This report shows that we are proud to be home to new companies and expansions that provide quality jobs for our residents, we value our relationships with small business owners and are taking steps to support them, and we are reaching out to young people to develop a skilled workforce for the future.”

The City received several economic development awards and accolades in 2024, earning recognitions from the Dallas Business Journal, the Texas Economic Development Council, the American Planning Association, the Texas Downtown Association and the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

The annual report includes statistics such as the growth of the City’s total valuation by Dallas Central Appraisal District from approximately $13.5 billion in 2023 to $15.3 billion in 2024, as well as sales tax performance, demographic data, real estate figures and new business announcements.

“The investments we make now to expand our commercial tax base will benefit our citizens for many years to come,” said City Manager Cliff Keheley. “We need to maintain an aggressive economic development program to ensure we have more successful years in the future.”

The framework behind the annual reporting is the City’s five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan, which was spear-headed by a volunteer committee comprised of citizens, institutional partners and commercial real estate leaders.

Additionally, the report provides information on redevelopment, incentives, tourism, marketing and provides insight as to areas of economic focus in Mesquite for the coming year.
