Mesquite receives Economic Excellence recognition five years in a row

For the fifth year in a row, the City of Mesquite’s Economic Development Department received the Economic Excellence Recognition from the Texas Economic Development Council. In 2020, Mesquite was one of only 49 Economic Development Organization’s (EDO) to earn the prestigious recognition out of 660 EDO’s in the state.

Lexie Woodward, Manager of Economic Development, said, “Receiving this recognition for the fifth year in a row demonstrates the commitment to professionalism this department and the City of Mesquite exercises when it comes to economic vitality.  It’s a great recognition to add to a series of recent successes the department and City have achieved.”

The program gives recognition to EDO’s that meet a desired threshold of professionalism. This is demonstrated by staff, their governing board and/or their City Council partaking in a certain amount of training and/or other educational opportunities related to Economic Development.   In addition, staff certifications and professional memberships, as well as organizational effectiveness tools employed, also contribute to the standards for award qualification.
