Mesquite ranked #2 in North Texas for economic development deals in 2023
Mesquite, TX – Dec. 4, 2024 – The Dallas Business Journal has recognized the City of Mesquite as the second-leading city in North Texas for economic development deals in 2023.
Mesquite made 14 deals in 2023 valued at $1.11 billion. These deals represent more than 2,800 new jobs. Among the major economic announcements in 2023 was a $500 million deal with General Dynamics, $280 million with Canadian Solar and $115 million with IH-20 Business Park.
Kim Buttram, Mesquite’s Director of Economic Development, said that while the entire North Texas region is experiencing a development boom, the key to Mesquite’s success is relationships.
“Businesses coming to Mesquite are treated as true partners,” she said. “We engage early and work as a team – from the City Manager to Economic Development to the Building Inspection team. We are focused on speed to market and developing a long-term relationship.”
To create the annual rankings, the Dallas Business Journal evaluated 27 local government agencies that promote economic development in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties. This year, the City of Fort Worth ranked first, followed by Mesquite and Arlington. Mesquite has been in the top 7 for three years, placing seventh in 2022 and third in 2021.
