As city officials and community stakeholders toured the new General Dynamics plant in Mesquite there was a collective feeling of excitement that the city was entering a new era. The festivities surrounding the opening of the 500,000-square-foot (SF) campus was one of three major manufacturing company openings held this past June. However, there was something about being in the proximity of giant artillery shells, military personnel, and a sea of machinery that gave the attendees and occasion an extra special feeling of importance.
It is this same feeling of proximity to importance that Mesquite officials expect will help attract companies to the properties surrounding the General Dynamic’s Mesquite campus. The city’s economic development department is keeping an especially close watch on the 14-acre property located at the corner of the U.S. Route 80 and Interstate 635.
“We don’t expect this property to remain on the market very long. The manufacturing and industrial growth in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area is finding great opportunities to the east and this property offers superb speed to market,” said Kim Buttram, Mesquite’s Economic Development Director.
Plans are in place to break ground this fall on a 203,169 SF industrial building which can be divided into two smaller 100,000 SF space. Available for sale or lease, the property is zoned for planned development (PD) which allows for flexible design and use. “We are working with the broker in the hopes finding the right tenant or tenants,” stated Ms. Buttram.
City of Mesquite reviews incentive requests on a case-by-case basis. For more information about the property and development opportunities please contact Alberto Rivera with Mesquite’s Economic Development Department at [email protected].
