Mesquite Celebrates National Small Business Week with Workshops, Pitch Events, and Community Engagement

The City of Mesquite proudly celebrated National Small Business Week from May 5–10, 2025, with a full slate of events designed to support, inspire, and connect local entrepreneurs. From proclamations to networking events, the week highlighted the vital role small businesses play in the city’s economic development and future growth.

Monday: Kicking Off with a Proclamation

The week began with an official proclamation from Mayor Dan Alemán Jr. during the May 5 City Council meeting, recognizing National Small Business Week in Mesquite. Members of the Mesquite Economic Development Advisory Board (M.E.D.A.), as well as local businesses like Wood Forest Bank, Quality Home Furniture Mesquite, and Mystic Salon & Spa were present for the occasion, showing the City's commitment to fostering a thriving business environment.

Tuesday: Student Innovation Takes the Stage

Innovation was in full swing on Tuesday as Mesquite ISD hosted its first INCubatoredu Pitch Night. Kim Buttram, Director of Economic Development, served as a judge for the event, which brought together student entrepreneurs and local business leaders. Three high schools presented innovative business solutions, and at next years event, all MISD high schools are slated to participate.

Wednesday: Fourth Annual Entrepreneurs Day

On Wednesday, local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs gathered at Flourish Events Dallas for the fourth annual Entrepreneurs Day. The event featured a first time dynamic "Experts Panel" discussion alongside targeted roundtable sessions covering key topics such as business planning, funding, marketing, legal compliance, city regulations, and more. The day proved to be a valuable resource for both new and experienced business owners.

Thursday: Young Professionals Connect

The Mesquite Young Professionals group hosted its inaugural Membership Mixer at Alejandro’s at Front Street Station. The event brought together emerging leaders and young entrepreneurs from Mesquite and neighboring areas. The mixer fostered meaningful connections and introduced the group to a broader audience of driven professionals.

Friday: Spotlight on Small Business with Quick Pitch

Ten local businesses took to the camera at Small Business Quick Pitch, hosted at BrassOlea Studios. Organized by Sabrina Hosein, the event was such a success that plans are underway to host it quarterly. As a result, BrassOlea secured 15 new video production commitments and a podcast opportunity. Additionally, connections made during the event led to a promising referral to the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program for local business Ovenhead Pizza.

Saturday: Supporting Local at the Farmers Market

The week wrapped up by spotlighting small business vendors at the Mesquite Farmers Market, reinforcing community support and visibility for local entrepreneurs.

The promotional efforts surrounding the entire week’s events delivered a strong digital impact through the Small Business Success Committee Facebook page, resulting in an increase in engagement and visibility. Promotional efforts garnered 34,400 views, while reaching 17,800 users. The campaign also generated 571 link clicks, and welcomed 33 new followers. Boosted posts played a key role in amplifying these results, helping to spotlight Mesquite’s small business community and connect residents with local offerings.  

Thanks to the collaboration between the City of Mesquite and dedicated community partners, National Small Business Week 2025 was an amazing success. The energy and enthusiasm displayed throughout the week, signals a strong future for small business in Mesquite. We look forward to building on this momentum in 2026.
