Mesquite announces $650,000 investment in Northridge Shopping Center

CenterPoint Commercial Properties will invest approximately $650,000 to improve the Northridge Shopping Center located at 1805 North Galloway Avenue. The improvements will include façade enhancements, new tenant signage, roof repairs and storefront renovations. In 2020 the developer purchased the shopping center, which was constructed in 1960, and has proposed plans to renovate the center to attract new tenants and approve its appearance.

Cliff Keheley, City Manager, said “This is an investment in retail and residents. The improvement of this popular shopping plaza will enhance its viability with securing and maintaining tenants. It will also infuse pride in citizens who live in the nearby neighborhood and shop at Northridge Shopping Center.”

At their May 3 meeting the City Council authorized the City Manager to finalize and execute an Economic Development Program Agreement (Chapter 380 Agreement) with Northridge Partners LLC, for the major renovation and redevelopment of the property. Keheley stated, “A top priority of the City Council has been to address aging shopping centers. This is another example of our efforts of focusing on a City Council goal and achieving the objective.”

Mark Cohen, President of CenterPoint Properties, said at the meeting, “We have a history of taking over old shopping centers and revitalizing them. We have a plan to re-face the entire shopping center.” Cohen shared that there will also be electrical upgrades, and they plan to keep and maintain the existing sign with the Northridge Shopping Center logo.

The city will rebate property and sales taxes generated by the businesses at the Northridge Shopping Center for the next 10 years as well as provide Northridge Partners LLC with $100,000 for the façade and signage improvements.
