2,800 jobs created, 9 companies expand in Mesquite in 2023
Mesquite, TX – March 27, 2024 – The City of Mesquite has released its 2023 Economic Development Annual Report, which highlights 2,800 new jobs created and nine company expansions.
Two of the expansions belong to companies opening their first United-States facilities: Canadian Solar and Hexagon Purus, clean energy manufacturing companies headquartered in Canada and Norway, respectively.
The annual report also includes the announcement by aerospace and defense giant General Dynamics to open a new ordnance and tactical systems facility in Mesquite.
“We are honored to be chosen by these companies and look forward to growing alongside them,” said Mayor Daniel Aleman, Jr. “These industries bring unprecedented opportunity to the people in our region – from residents to students to small businesses and local service providers – and spotlight Mesquite as a destination for innovative companies.”
Other large U.S. companies including Lowe’s, Masonite, and Coleman Powersports found homes in new Mesquite business parks. Vehicle Accessory Group and companion company Greenliner (formerly KN Rubber) moved their headquarters to Mesquite, and RJW Logistics also chose the City for its base to serve the southern central U.S. These companies supply products to customers including Toyota and Walmart.
The annual report includes statistics such as the growth of the City’s total valuation by Dallas Central Appraisal District from approximately $5.5 billion in 2015 to $13.5 billion in 2023, as well as sales tax performance, demographic data, real estate figures and new business announcements.
“Mesquite is in a rapid growth cycle,” City Manager Cliff Keheley said. “We are working with developers to diversify our local economy in balancing commercial, retail and residential projects while positioning Mesquite as a destination of choice for those moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth region.”
The framework behind the new annual reporting is the City’s five-year Economic Development Strategic Plan, which was spear-headed by a volunteer committee comprised of citizens, institutional partners and commercial real estate leaders.
“The goal of the report is to help the public and our investors see the results of their collaboration,” said Kim Buttram, Director of Economic Development. “It was a record year for development in Mesquite. We want them to see the power of their investment of time and money year-over-year.”
Additionally, the report provides information on redevelopment, incentives, tourism, marketing and provides insight as to areas of economic focus in Mesquite for the coming year.
