Meaningful Connections and Collaboration Kick Off The First BRE Event of the Year

On February 20, 2025, the BRE (Business Retention and Expansion) Taskforce launched the year with a dynamic and engaging event at  Canadian Solar. This gathering set the stage for a year of collaboration, innovation, and economic progress for Mesquite. With influential leaders from local businesses, education institutions, and workforce development organizations in attendance, the event fostered meaningful discussions and actionable strategies to strengthen the community.

The meeting kicked off with an update on recent economic developments in Mesquite. The group then introduced the updated BRE framework, which includes Retention, Expansion, Workforce Development, Community Engagement, and Attraction as its key pillars. Attendees discussed the importance of clarifying the vision for BRE to ensure its goals and purpose are clearly defined. The group also proposed revisiting the BRE’s marketing strategy, with discussions around the potential rebranding of “BRE” to make it more public-facing and instill excitement in its efforts.

The partners emphasized the importance of vision clarity and aligning on specific goals and key performance indicators (KPIs). They agreed to reconvene in March for a follow-up discussion to further refine these points. In addition, a marketing committee will be formed to focus on enhancing outreach and refining the BRE's branding efforts.

The event was followed by a networking lunch, where local companies and higher education schools, including Fritz Industries, Norkol, Elements International, Owens CorningHithium, Workforce Solutions, Dallas College, University of Texas at Dallas, Mesquite ISD, and Mesquite Chamber had the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas. Following lunch, Canadian Solar hosted an exclusive tour of its impressive manufacturing facility. Philip Zheng, Vice President & General Manager of Manufacturing for North America, welcomed attendees and provided an insightful overview of the company’s operations. Participants had the opportunity to witness the intricate process of solar panel production and learn about Canadian Solar’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. With 1,700 employees from over 25 countries, the facility exemplifies the impact of global expertise within the local workforce.

The momentum from this successful event will carry forward into March for a workshop to focus on refining its vision, establishing clearer goals, and creating a robust marketing strategy. This meeting also marks the beginning of efforts to form a marketing committee to further the outreach and visibility of BRE’s work to the Mesquite community.

Thank you to Canadian Solar for opening its doors to the BRE taskforce and Mesquite community!
