Hithium Opens $200M Battery Energy Storage Manufacturing Facility in North Texas

Hithium—a global leader in integrated energy storage solutions based in Xiamen, China—officially opened its new manufacturing facility in Mesquite last Thursday, marking an investment of nearly $200 million in the project.

Over 200 industry leaders, local government officials, and community partners gathered to witness the opening of the nearly half-million-square foot facility, which is located within Stream Realty Partners’ 20 East Trinity Pointe business development at 12955 FM 2932 off I-20 in Mesquite. The new facility, a retrofit of an existing industrial building, was designed and built by Lexington, Kentucky-based Gray Construction.

Founded in 2019, Hithium specializes in battery energy storage systems (BESS). Its stationary energy storage products are designed for utility-scale as well as commercial and industrial applications. The company is known for innovations including “groundbreaking” safety improvements to its lithium-ion batteries as well as increases in the lifecycle of its battery energy systems.

Hithium’s first facility in North America will bring nearly 200 jobs

The new plant—Hithium’s first manufacturing facility in North America—is slated to begin mass production in late 2025, with an annual capacity of 10GWh for battery modules and systems. The facility will create “nearly 200 high-quality jobs,” Hithium said, and will serve as “a cornerstone of domestic energy storage production.”“Texas marks a significant step in Hithium’s global strategy,” Hithium Founder and Chairman Jeff Wu said at last week’s ribbon-cutting event. “We’re creating an interconnected supply network that powers the worldwide energy transition. True resilience comes from global reach, and we are building the infrastructure to lead it.”

Mesquite mayor lauds opening, collaboration with schools and Dallas College

Mesquite Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. spoke at the plant’s ribbon-cutting event, calling Hithium’s partnership with Mesquite “a model of efficiency and vision.”“Beyond its investment, this facility opens doors for our youth through collaborations with 40 school districts and Dallas College, ensuring our workforce leads the energy transition,” the mayor added.Mizhi Zhang, president of global business at Hithium, said the company’s Mesquite facility “embodies our dual focus: manufacturing excellence and customer-centric growth.”“By localizing education, production, and service networks, we’re not just expanding globally—we’re deepening our roots in the communities we serve,” Zhang added. “With global strategic supplier partnerships, we ensure coast-to-coast reliability, setting a new standard for the U.S. energy storage market.”

“Helping innovative companies like Hithium grow in the U.S. market is exactly what we’re built for,” Brian Jones, president and CEO of Gray Construction, said in a statement. “We’re proud to play a role in bringing clean energy technology to life through world-class manufacturing facilities like this one.”

‘We’ve built more than a factory’

James Boswell, VP of North America operations for Hithium, said the plant’s opening “reflects the power of partnership between Hithium, local governments, educators, and our global supply chain teams.”

Speaking in a panel discussion on localization during the event, Boswell added, “Our supply chain strategy is a testament to long-term planning. Hithium is delivering solutions that balance local responsiveness with global scalability.”

“Together, we’ve built more than a factory; we’ve created a hub for talent development, technological leadership, and operational excellence,” Boswell said. “This is where the future of American energy begins.”
