Empty Sears at Mesquite’s Town East Mall could get a major makeover

A year after the last Sears store in Dallas-Fort Worth closed at Town East Mall, a Dallas developer is negotiating with the Mesquite shopping center to turn the former department store and its large parking lot into a new retail, entertainment and restaurant space.

Dallas-based Elm Creek Real Estate has submitted drawings to economic development officials in Mesquite for a plan to convert the former department store into an open-air concept with buildings on either side of a two-level outdoor space with stairs, fountains and seating areas.

The initial renderings were created by O’Brien Architects, the Dallas-based firm that designed The Star in Frisco and other buildings around it.
