Gus Thomasson Corridor Businesses Celebrate Community AND Competition

Ten Gus Thomasson Corridor (GTC) businesses came together on December 5, 2023, at La Michoacana Meat Market (3301 Gus Thomasson Rd.) for a GTC holiday event. The occasion was a culmination of the Light Up the Corridor Holiday Contest, which invited GTC businesses to decorate their storefronts in festive style and the public to vote on their favorite décor via Facebook and/or Instagram.

Alberto Rivera, Economic Development Coordinator with the City of Mesquite, welcomed attendees and spoke on the contest and the history of the Gus Thomasson Corridor. Council Member District 2 Kenny Green announced and presented the storefront decorating contest award winners. One Life Fitness and Nutrition - Healthy Smoothie Bar won the People’s Choice Award and Berkshire Hathaway Home Services: A Action Realtors, won the Overall Holiday Spirit Award.

A random draw took place to choose a winner from the community of voters who participated of the event. Alejandro Contreras, Store Manager at La Michoacana Meat Market, drew Shea Martinez name as the winner. Shea is now the proud recipient of a $200 gift card from La Michoacana Meat Market for her participation. She had cast her vote for One Life Fitness and Nutrition – Healthy Smoothie Bar. We extend an invitation to the public to contemplate participating in next year's contest, offering the opportunity to win a prize and be part of the experience.

The diverse array of businesses in attendance reflects the corridor's dynamic economic landscape. GTC-based participants included La Michoacana Meat Market, One Life Fitness and Nutrition - Healthy Smoothie Bar, FUN! Billiards & Gameroom Superstore, Candelaria’s Bakery, Two Cups Coffee & Café, Prospect Barber Institute, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services: A Action Realtors, Oven Head Pizza (to open on the first week of the new year), Taco City y Más, Shears & Colour Salon (opened just six months ago). Also present at the event were MVP, LP Financial, andSuitable Insurance, representing the Mesquite Small Business Success Committee, which was formed as a result of the City of Mesquite Economic Development Strategic Plan. Their participation highlights a collective dedication to supporting the Gus Thomasson Corridor.
